OOTD: Funky Fresh

Can we talk about how fun and funky these pants are? Or, should we talk about how affordable this whole outfit is?! Both the top and pants are from Forever 21 (yes, my new fav place I suppose), and once again I was surprised by the quality. Oh, and if you were curious about the sweater, it's Summer in SF people...fuh-reezing.

OOTD: Green with Envy

Summer is back in the city! Yay! Gotta soak it up while you can because in SF it can change in less than a day. Raining one day, hot the next? Yup, believe it. When I found out I would be joining the corporate world again, I immediately ran to Zara to pick a few things up. Today's fit is what I came up with a couple weeks ago. Just love the green color of this skirt!

Back in Action - For the Love of a (More Corporate) Fit!

I have been missing my blog! I took a little hiatus after getting laid off...Not a whole lot of shopping happening at that time and my daily outfit of choice usually consisted of yoga pants. Ya, I doubt you wanted to see those pictures on the daily!

But, alas, my funemployment days are over and not only am I back in the daily grind, I'm working in a somewhat corporate environment.  Goodbye camo pants and sneaker wedges, you have been banished to the weekend (and maybe the occasional Friday), and hello business casual. All those fun fits will be missed, but now I get the opportunity to come up with all kinds of new (and dare I say it, slightly more grown up) fits, especially for my ladies in the office environments!

So I hope you will continue to join me on my journey of new fits...on a budget of course!

OOTD: Camo Pants x2

When I first mentioned purchasing a pair of camo pants, my fiancee had a look on his face like, yer kidding right?! And when I came home with said pants, the look didn't change. But come on! Camo pants are freakin' adorable! Whatevs...I still love em and definitely don't regret purchasing this pair from Zara.

F21 Skirts to Love

I used to think Forever 21 was only good for cheap, trendy clothing (womp womp), but now I've realized that Forever 21 is great for cheap, trendy clothing (yay)! You can find some great pieces for amazing prices, especially when looking for something that may be around for this season, but extinct the next. I just ordered the second skirt, and hope to have an outfit post up soon after it arrives. Here are a few of my picks for spring and summery skirts:

OOTD: LOL (Lady of Leisure)

So, I got laid off last week and am now trying to keep to my stylish ways but in a MUCH more comfortable fashion. Yes, I have become a LOL (lady of leisure). Not for long...hopefully...but for now, I will accept it. I adore this scarf, because a) I am obsessed with skulls, and b) it looks just like the Alexander McQueen scarf I have been lusting after, but with a Zara price tag. And can we please talk about these shoes? I mentioned in a previous post that I just bought these, and although I should be returning since the price tag was high and I have no job, I just refused to part with them. They were just too cute!

DIY Burlap Banner

I recently signed myself up to help with a friend's baby shower, and in the process, agreed to make banners that say "Bonjour Bebe" and "Bon Appetit". I purchased one from Etsy for the my wedding Save the Dates, and I was convinced I could make them myself instead of spending $25.00 to $30.00 per banner.

Check out my process below:

Materials
Burlap Fabric
Stencil Film
Acrylic Blue Paint
Foam Paintbrush
Craft or X-Acto Knife
Cutting Mat
Tape
JuteTwine
Glue Gun
Scissors

1. I measured out my burlap squares with a ruler and a pen to mark. My measurements were 5 and 1/2 inches across, and 6 and 1/2 inches down. I got my burlap at a local fabric store, but you can find it online at Joann's, and use a coupon to save!

2. After cutting the squares out, I folded it in half length wise and pinned it together. I then measured 1 and a half inches from the bottom on the folded part and marked it with a pen. Start at the bottom left corner where the sides are pinned, and make a slanted cut from the corner to the pen mark. Now I had the shape banner square that I wanted. You can be creative with this part; leave the square whole, cut a triangle, really anything!

3. I wanted to find the perfect font to use as a stencil. Since the baby shower is French-themed, I went with the appropriate named "French Script" in Microsoft Word. I printed out the letters in 400, 450, and 500 size fonts to pick and choose which one would look the best. For my size banner I went with 400. Here is an example of what the French Script lettering looks like:

I also wanted something to break up the words if I was going to do something like Bon Appetit all on one banner, so I printed our this Fleur De Lys stencil I found online:

4. I printed all of the letters and the Fleur De Lys onto white paper. I then taped the stencil film on top of the paper so that I could see the lettering underneath. I placed it on top of a cutting mat, and taped it down securely. Using my craft knife I followed the outlines of the letters. Be really careful with this part since the knife can be so sharp. It make take a few tries to get down a good technique.

5. Once I had all my stencils cut out, I placed each letter on top of the burlap squares. When the placement looked about right, I lightly taped the stencil onto the burlap so it wouldn't move around. Using a foam paint brush, I lightly dipped it into the fabric paint, making sure to blot any excess paint off. I used more of a blotting method to paint over the stencil.

6. Once the paint had dried slightly (not too long because you don't want the stencil to dry and stick to the burlap), I carefully removed the tape and the stencil. And oila! Pretty perfect huh? I'm very proud of myself!

 7. After all of the squares were stenciled and dried, I used a glue gun to glue the jute twine to the back of the burlap fabric so that I could hang it up. Leave quite a bit of twine at each end so that you have plenty to play with when hanging.

And that's it! A beautiful hand made banner at a fraction of the cost. Let me know if you have any questions, and good luck!

Wedge Woes

I love the new wedge sneaker trend. Yup, I admit it. At first I wasn't so sure about getting on board but now I see the light. Does anyone else remember those being in style about 15 years ago? Or am I just completely dating myself right now?! Lol! Well, there was a similar trend at one time. Here are my favs:

Starting the New Year Right: With a New Wardrobe!

My love of fashion started in 2012, and I am hoping to bring that love affair to new heights with more amazing pieces in 2013. Here is what I am hoping to bring into my possession in the near future:

Marc Jacobs Bag (Any really!)

Red Blazer (I guess I'm loving red right now?!)

I would be happy to start off the year with these pieces! Oh, and one of my resolutions? To start taking better fit pictures for my OOTD posts! I will figure something out one of these days. ;)
